Common questions about building an aesthetics business

What business support is available for newly qualified aesthetics practitioners?

Octavia’s Revenge helps newly qualified aesthetics practitioners build the commercial side of the business after clinical training.

Support currently falls into three levels: self-led business tools, small-group workshops and bespoke Strategic Support Modules. Topics include commercial readiness, local market analysis, offer and pricing, positioning, brand and messaging, client acquisition, marketing spend and customer journey.

The aim is simple: help you make better business decisions before spending heavily on websites, branding, social media, advertising or premises.

I’ve qualified in aesthetics. What should I do next?

Start by working out whether the business is commercially viable before buying lots of marketing.

That usually means understanding how much time you can realistically give the business, where you might practise, how crowded your local market is, which treatments you should lead with, what you need to earn and who you are trying to attract.

Once those decisions are clearer, branding and marketing become much easier to brief and much harder to waste money on.

How much does business support for aesthetics practitioners cost?

Octavia’s Revenge currently offers support at several levels.

The Aesthetics Business Toolkit is planned at £75, small-group workshops are planned at £150 per topic, and bespoke Strategic Support Modules start from £950 per module.

The Toolkit and workshops are being developed with practitioners and training providers. Strategic Support Modules are available to commission now.

Larger projects can combine several modules into one bespoke programme.

What is a Strategic Support Module?

A Strategic Support Module is a focused piece of bespoke commercial strategy built around one specific business problem.

I assess the situation, review the relevant business or marketing material, carry out appropriate desk research, diagnose the issue and provide clear strategic recommendations and next steps.

Modules include areas such as Commercial Readiness & Capacity, Market & Opportunity, Offer & Pricing, Positioning & Proposition, Brand & Messaging, Client Acquisition & Marketing Spend, and Customer Journey & Experience.

They start from £950 per module.

Can you help me decide where to practise aesthetics?

Yes. Market and location analysis is part of the Market & Opportunity work.

This can include competitor concentration, local pricing, treatment availability, geographic saturation, potential gaps in the market and the practical implications of working from home, renting a room, partnering with another practitioner or opening premises.

The goal is not to find a mythical area with no competition. It is to understand where there may be a viable opportunity and what you would need to do differently to compete.

Can you help me work out what treatments to offer and what to charge?

Yes. Offer & Pricing work looks at what you are qualified and confident to deliver, local demand, competitor pricing, treatment economics, repeat potential and how the services fit together commercially.

For a newly qualified practitioner, the answer is often not to launch every treatment immediately.

A narrower initial offer can make it easier to communicate what you do, build confidence, understand client demand and protect margin before expanding.

Can you help me get my first aesthetics clients?

Yes, but I do not start with “post more on Instagram”.

Client acquisition work looks at who you are trying to reach, where those people are likely to find and assess a practitioner, which channels deserve attention, what trust signals are needed, and what level of marketing spend is proportionate at your stage.

Depending on the business, this may include referrals, local partnerships, Google visibility, social media, content, events, email or paid acquisition.

The objective is to identify the smallest sensible set of activities worth testing before scaling spend.

Do I need a logo, website and Instagram account as soon as I qualify?

Not necessarily.

You need enough credibility and clarity for a prospective client to understand who you are, what you offer, where you practise and why they should trust you. That does not automatically mean commissioning an expensive website, full rebrand and content package on day one.

For many practitioners, it makes more sense to understand the market, offer, positioning and customer first, then decide what brand and marketing assets are actually required.

That is the principle behind Strategy before spend.

Can you help me with aesthetics marketing rules and ASA compliance?

I can help you build marketing around the relevant advertising restrictions and identify obvious areas of risk, but I do not provide legal or clinical advice.

Aesthetics marketing is subject to UK advertising rules, and some treatments and medicines are subject to tighter restrictions than ordinary consumer services. My role is to help make sure strategy, messaging and marketing decisions take those constraints seriously and to flag where specialist regulatory advice is appropriate.

Do you work with aesthetics training providers?

Yes.

I work with training providers that want to give students more commercial support after qualification, particularly around the gap between learning how to perform treatments and learning how to build a viable business.

Potential formats include guest workshops, post-qualification workshop series, white-labelled resources and tailored student-support programmes.

Training providers can also help shape the Toolkit and workshop programme by sharing the problems their graduates encounter most often.

Do you only work with newly qualified practitioners?

Newly qualified practitioners are the main focus of the current offer, because that is where the strongest early demand has emerged.

I also take on selected projects for established practitioners and clinics, particularly where the business is reviewing its positioning, pricing, brand, marketing, customer journey or a major strategic investment.

Examples might include deciding whether to open another location, reviewing a large device purchase, repositioning a clinic or working out why existing marketing is underperforming.

Do you work with established aesthetics clinics?

Yes, selectively.

Established clinics usually come to me with a more complex commercial question than “how do I start?”

That might be stalled growth, unclear positioning, weak marketing performance, a premiumisation project, a rebrand, a major investment decision, expansion or a customer journey that no longer matches the standard of the clinical experience.

Those projects are normally delivered through one or more Strategic Support Modules or a larger bespoke programme.

Do you work remotely or in person?

Both.

Workshops and strategic sessions can be delivered remotely where that makes sense, and in-person work is available for suitable projects.

I am based in Milton Keynes and particularly well placed for businesses and training providers across Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire, although remote projects can be delivered more widely.

What makes Octavia’s Revenge different from a marketing agency?

Octavia’s Revenge sits before execution.

A marketing agency may build the website, run the ads, create content or manage social media. My role is to work out what the business actually needs before suppliers, freelancers or AI tools are briefed.

That can mean questioning the market, offer, pricing, positioning, customer journey or proposed spend before money is committed.

If the right answer is “don’t buy that yet”, I can say so because I am not trying to sell a large implementation package afterwards.

Do you provide the design, website, social media or advertising too?

Not usually.

I provide the commercial, brand and marketing strategy, then translate that thinking into clear, usable briefs.

Those briefs can be handed to your existing suppliers, used with freelancers or agencies, or seeded into an AI marketing agent for execution.

Where specialist human input is needed, I can also introduce appropriate independent specialists.

How do I know which Strategic Support Module I need?

You do not need to diagnose yourself perfectly before getting in touch.

If you know the issue, for example pricing or client acquisition, you can enquire about that module directly.

If the problem is less clear, I can first look at what is happening in the business and help determine whether the underlying issue is commercial readiness, market opportunity, offer, positioning, brand, acquisition or customer experience.

The Strategic Problem Map examples on this site show how that diagnosis can work in practice.

What happens after I enquire?

You complete a short enquiry form first so I can understand the business, the problem and what you are trying to achieve.

If it looks like I can help, you can then book a short fit call. That keeps the first conversation focused and avoids wasting your time on a generic sales call.

For bespoke work, I will then confirm the recommended scope, price and expected output before anything begins.

Can I see examples of the strategic work before I buy?

Yes.

The Examples section shows illustrative outputs such as a Commercial Readiness & Capacity Model, Local Market & Competitor Map, Offer & Pricing Architecture, Brand Messaging House, Ideal Client Persona, Customer Journey Map and 90-Day Client Acquisition & Spend Plan.

Due to NDA's, these are fictional examples rather than client case studies. But they show the type and depth of thinking used within Strategic Support Modules and larger projects.

The Toolkit and workshops use the same principles in a lighter, more practical format.

I’m a training provider. Can you create something specifically for my students?

Yes.

Training-provider support can be adapted to the level of training you deliver, the experience of your students and the problems they most commonly encounter after qualification.

That could include one-off guest sessions, a stackable workshop series, post-qualification resources or a more structured white-labelled programme.

The best starting point is a short enquiry about your students, courses and current support.

Who the f*ck is Octavia, anyway?

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve earned at least part of the story.

Octavia began life as my purple emotional support ostrich in a LinkedIn carousel that went unexpectedly viral in 2024. She stuck around.

Since then, she’s become part mascot, part alter ego and part reminder to get your head out of the sand.

The rest of the story? That’s under the velvet rope.

Book a workshop, work with me, or catch me in person and I might tell you.
